Mass Movements Begin with a Few

Mass Movements Begin with a Few

Sometimes we have a new idea or thought process, and we know it’s great. But how do we get others to buy into it? This is a challenge I face with our corporate training program. You see, the real issue in our industry isn’t a lack of talent—it’s a lack of great leaders.

Let’s be honest: how many of us had formal leadership training before we were put in leadership roles? Probably none. So, when I try to communicate the value of leadership training and people don’t immediately grasp how crucial it is to their organization’s success, it’s easy to feel a little dejected.

That was until I realized something fundamental: mass movements don’t begin with the masses—they begin with a few. They don’t start big; they start small. But because they have an idea with a mission or cause, they may not start great, but they become great.

It reminds me of what we did with our Build IT Live conference. No one had ever thought of an education-only MSP channel conference that provided templates, tools, and processes—without sales pitches. What do you mean no sales pitches?! And yet, today, every conference is asking for educational topics focused on real learning. We were pioneers.

The Power of Intentionality

It all comes down to intentionality. I know there’s immense value in training teams to be better leaders. All I need is a few advocates to help spread the word. That’s why I teach on the subject. I attend industry events, share our curriculum, and provide copies of our slide decks—with the hope that this will grow into a movement.

Imagine a world where every MSP owner requires their team members to complete a leadership training program before they’re allowed to lead a team. That’s my mission. That’s my movement. I know my cause, and I’m building a movement with people, one step at a time.

What’s Your Cause?

So, what’s your cause? How will you live a life that inspires others? It starts with intentionally adding value to people every single day.

In my case, I want to help people become better leaders so they can create a better employee experience. Happy employees deliver better service to customers. Happy customers give you more work and help your organization grow. Everyone wins. It’s a ripple effect.

And if I ever do good in life, I hope people will remember me— a Pioneer that was more amazing than the message itself 😊.

Lead Your Life

Here’s a truth to reflect on: Most people don’t lead their life—they accept their life.
Let that sink in.

So, ask yourself: What am I doing that inspires others?

Make a conscious effort to lead a life with purpose. Find your movement. Decide how you’ll make a positive change in your world. Remember, you don’t need a million people to believe in it from day one—just a few can make a difference.

What matters most is having the courage to start and the determination to be an agent of change.

Gandhi said it best: “Be the change you want to see in the world.” It starts with one person.
