Starting his career in inventory management at Abercrombie & Fitch, then transitioning to brand management at Fanatics, JB’s path eventually led him to pursue an MBA at the University of Virginia. However, the allure of running a P&L and making impactful decisions drew him towards the MSP industry. 

The MSP Appeal 

For JB, the appeal of MSPs lies in the ever-changing landscape of technology and the intrinsic people-centric nature of the business. “Technology is always changing,” JB explained, “so there are always new things to implement internally and offer to clients.” The constant innovation and the opportunity to help businesses grow through technology are what drive him. 

Overcoming Initial Challenges 

Transitioning into the MSP world without prior experience presented its own set of challenges. JB emphasized the importance of humility and continuous learning. “I’ve filled four notepads since becoming CEO,” he shared, highlighting his commitment to absorbing knowledge from his experienced team. According to him, this humility and willingness to learn are crucial for any leader entering a new industry.

Regular L10 meetings, quarterly team health assessments and a clear vision have helped steer the company towards its goals effectively. 

Reading books like “The Five Dysfunctions of a Team” by Patrick Lencioni and conducting regular health checks have been integral to this process. These tools, collectively, ensure that the leadership team is functioning optimally, setting the tone for the rest of the organization.
